The Civil War in the Mountains
To be sure, Appalachia's Civil War experience did not include any Gettysburgs or
Antietams; no Grants nor Lees. Despite this fact, it did play host to many complex
fights that were as much defined by the terrain in which they were fought as the
men firing that day. Ten times during the coming five years, bus trips will be
organized to take interested parties on tours of some of the most important sites of
the region's Civil War.
