The Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team provided OSM/VISTA volunteers to help build the capacity of UVa-Wise and the surrounding community to create and utilize The Wetlands and to support environmental work and economic development in the area.

AMD&ART was the design inspiration for The Wetlands.

Lonesome Pine Soil and Water Conservation District and the Guest River Group were catalysts in getting this project started and have provided on-going support to ensure that the project doesn't get forgotten.

The UVa-Wise Natural Sciences Department monitors The Wetlands and uses it as research space. They have been crucial to the sustainability of this project.

Here's a link to a Wetlands Symposium that was held here in 2006.
